Lecture Alfredo Jaar

What art could do to fight the global financial crisis? The answer that
Alfredo Jaar gave at SMBA was concrete. For seven weeks the chilean artist
transformed the project room of the Stedelijk Museum in ‘The Marx Lounge’,
a place where, between sofas and coffea tables, the visitor could read one
of the hundreds books present and follow a dense programme of lectures. In
fact, the center of the project was a long table totally covered by books
related to marxism that, as the artist said in his opening lecture, could
really change the world just with the strenght of their ideas.
